NFPA 80 New Fire Door Compliance Standards
The 2007 edition of Standards for Fire Doors and Other Openings Protective, as written by the Foundation for Life Safety and Security, and adopted by the National Fire Protection Association
includes new requirements for annual Fire Door Inspections, to be documented by a third party inspection service, similar to Elevator and Sprinkler Inspections. These inspections must be performed by persons who are knowledgeable of the types of door assemblies being inspected, including swinging doors, and builders hardware which are the most common type of door assembly and are among the most complex due to the myriad of materials and products used to create them. These assemblies often provide accessibility, security and life-safety functions in addition to their fire-safety protection. Inspsectors must thoroughly understand the dynamics of these assemblies in order to correctly evaluate them in the field.
